Executive Summary

The National Stone Institute (NSI) is in the final stages of a significant modernization of its digital ecosystem, including a new Natural Stone Catalog, a new Learning Management System/Natural Stone University, and the planned integration and transition of its primary website.

With the current development partner transitioning away from web development, NSI needs an experienced team that can step into an active project, understand and preserve the work already completed, finish and stabilize the remaining WordPress components, coordinate effectively with the AMS/SSO team, manage testing and launch, and provide reliable support after deployment.

AS Creative Services proposes serving as that partner.

AS Creative Services has provided website design and development services since 2007, with a significant focus over the past decade on associations and membership organizations. Our experience includes WordPress development, AMS integrations, membership workflows, learning platforms, data migration, commerce, search, event technology, and ongoing digital support.

Our approach to NSI is focused on continuity rather than reinvention. We do not propose rebuilding work that is already functioning. Instead, AS Creative Services will assess the current environments, establish clear ownership of the remaining work, complete and stabilize the Catalog and LMS, coordinate the WordPress side of AMS/SSO integrations, support the main website transition, manage QA and production readiness, and provide NSI with a long-term technical partner following launch.

02

Understanding the NSI Digital Ecosystem

Based on our initial discussions, review of the existing project scope, and review of NSI’s current digital platforms, this project consists of three interconnected environments.

1. Main NSI Website

www.naturalstoneinstitute.org

Supports membership, education, events, industry programs, technical resources, sponsorship, directories, news and member services. The next major phase, and it must ultimately work cohesively with the Catalog, LMS, AMS and SSO infrastructure.

2. Natural Stone Catalog

catalog.naturalstoneinstitute.org

A WordPress platform organizing natural stone materials and industry information. Substantially developed and in testing. Content, search, filtering and frontend functionality can be tested independently of SSO, making it an ideal place to establish development, QA and production-readiness processes.

3. Natural Stone University / LMS

test-lms.naturalstoneinstitute.org

Built on WordPress and LearnDash with courses, categories, bundles, videos, quizzes, and member/non-member learning experiences. We will complete and stabilize the existing implementation rather than rebuild working LearnDash functionality.

03

Engagement Objectives

  1. 1Preserve and build upon the work already completed.
  2. 2Complete and stabilize the Natural Stone Catalog and LMS.
  3. 3Support completion and integration of the primary NSI website.
  4. 4Create a disciplined process for AMS/SSO coordination, testing, and issue ownership.
  5. 5Provide NSI with continuity and ongoing WordPress and digital support following launch.

The existing project scope places responsibility for non-SSO technical and content work with the incoming partner, including content population, search implementation, LearnDash configuration, commerce workflows, QA, accessibility, plugin management, security, backups, and production readiness. AS Creative Services is well positioned to assume these responsibilities.

04

Scope of Services

Phase 1 — Transition & Technical Assessment

$5,000 fixed fee

A structured transition from the existing development team: understand what has been built, identify what remains, uncover technical risks, and plan completion without duplicating existing work.

  • Obtain access to the existing WordPress environments
  • Review hosting and deployment infrastructure
  • Review source-code repositories and development workflows
  • Review themes, plugins, and custom functionality
  • Review existing technical documentation
  • Review plugin licensing and ownership
  • Review the Catalog implementation
  • Review the LMS and LearnDash configuration
  • Review existing testing feedback and bug lists
  • Identify remaining content population or migration requirements
  • Review search implementation and data mappings
  • Identify AMS and SSO dependencies
  • Review security, backup, and deployment procedures
  • Identify immediate launch risks and establish priorities

Phase 1 Deliverable

  • Completed work
  • Remaining work
  • Priority issues
  • AS-owned issues
  • AMS/SSO-dependent issues
  • Recommended sequence of work
  • Launch risks
  • Updated timeline
  • Refined allocation of effort within the approved project budget

Phase 2 — Natural Stone Catalog Completion

The Catalog will be one of the first environments we stabilize and prepare for production, serving as a non-SSO testbed for frontend functionality, search and content workflows while identifying functionality that must remain dependent on SSO validation.

  • Remaining content population
  • Content template refinement
  • CMS-to-frontend data mappings
  • Search implementation and tuning
  • Filtering and taxonomy behavior
  • Editorial workflows
  • Responsive and cross-browser testing
  • Accessibility review and remediation
  • Performance optimization
  • Plugin configuration
  • Bug remediation
  • Security review and backup verification
  • Production-readiness testing
  • Launch support

Where Catalog functionality depends on AMS authentication or member data, we will complete and validate the WordPress side independently wherever possible.

Phase 3 — Natural Stone University / LMS Completion

  • LearnDash configuration review
  • Course and lesson templates
  • Course welcome pages
  • Hosted video presentation
  • Quiz configuration
  • Course bundles and categories
  • User-role mapping
  • Enrollment workflows
  • Membership-based access rules
  • Course access testing
  • Content population and cleanup
  • Administrative workflows
  • Responsive, accessibility and browser testing
  • Bug remediation and production readiness

Maintainability: NSI’s core educational requirements do not appear to require extensive modification of LearnDash. We favor standard configuration and supported extension methods over customization of the underlying plugin, reducing technical debt and update risk.

Enrollment contingency: if AMS automation is delayed, we will establish a documented fallback allowing authorized NSI staff to manually assign course access, so a single integration dependency does not delay the LMS launch.

Phase 4 — Main Website Completion & Integration

Following stabilization of the Catalog and LMS, we will assist with completion, integration, testing and launch of the new primary NSI website. Exact scope will be refined after the technical assessment.

  • WordPress implementation support
  • Content templates
  • Content population and migration
  • Search implementation
  • Forms and converted legacy forms
  • Sponsorship workflows
  • Checkout and commerce functionality
  • Membership-gated functionality
  • AMS-dependent frontend functionality
  • Responsive, browser and device testing
  • Accessibility testing
  • Performance optimization
  • Plugin review and security hardening
  • Production configuration and analytics
  • Launch preparation and deployment support

05

AMS & SSO Coordination

A critical component of this engagement is a clear boundary between WordPress development and AMS/SSO responsibilities. Robert will remain responsible for AMS and SSO implementation; AS Creative Services will own the WordPress side of those integrations.

Integration Areas

  • Single sign-on
  • Course access
  • Automated enrollment
  • Membership gating
  • User-role mapping
  • Member-specific content
  • Account-related functionality
  • AMS-provided data
  • Other authenticated workflows

Defined For Each Workflow

  • WordPress responsibilities
  • AMS responsibilities
  • Required data
  • Expected user behavior
  • Test conditions
  • Acceptance criteria
  • Issue ownership
  • Fallback behavior where appropriate

We prepare the WordPress-side test cases and test data; Robert executes AMS/SSO-specific testing where AMS access or live validation is required; we remediate WordPress, frontend or plugin-side issues identified through that process.

Dependency & Blocker Management

AS / Partner-Owned

Issues AS Creative Services can investigate and resolve independently.

AMS / SSO Dependent

Issues requiring AMS configuration, SSO development, AMS-side data, credentials, or action from Robert.

This distinction is incorporated into regular project reporting. Where possible we develop temporary workflows or contingencies so AMS dependencies do not prevent unrelated development from progressing.

06

Quality Assurance & Accessibility

AS Creative Services will assume responsibility for end-to-end QA for functionality outside of the AMS/SSO layer.

  • Functional testing
  • Content QA
  • Responsive testing
  • Cross-browser testing
  • Search testing
  • Catalog testing
  • LearnDash testing
  • Enrollment testing
  • Form testing
  • Checkout and commerce testing
  • Accessibility testing
  • Plugin testing
  • Integration testing
  • Regression testing
  • Production validation

The project scope calls for a prioritized bug list clearly distinguishing issues requiring AMS/SSO involvement from partner-owned issues. We maintain that distinction throughout the engagement.

Accessibility — AS Accessibility

$2,400 annually

Accessibility is incorporated throughout QA and production readiness rather than treated as a last-minute launch activity. We use AS Accessibility for review, testing and ongoing monitoring across the main website, Catalog and LMS.

  • Keyboard navigation
  • Forms and form labeling
  • Heading and content structure
  • Links and navigation
  • Images and alternative text
  • Interactive controls
  • Color contrast
  • LearnDash course content and interfaces
  • Search and filtering interfaces
  • Responsive experiences

The annual AS Accessibility service is ongoing and separate from the $40,000–$60,000 implementation budget.

Security & Production Readiness

  • WordPress core updates
  • Plugin updates
  • Theme updates
  • Plugin licensing
  • Administrative accounts
  • Security configuration
  • Backup procedures
  • Restore procedures
  • Hosting configuration
  • Deployment process
  • Caching and performance
  • Error handling
  • Accessibility issues
  • Known production risks
  • Rollback procedures

A production-readiness checklist addressing security, plugin licensing, backups and accessibility is maintained independently of SSO status, so the WordPress platforms remain launch-ready even when AMS integration timing varies.

07

Project Management & Communication

AS Creative Services will provide a senior technical/project lead for the engagement. During active development we recommend:

  • Weekly project status meetings
  • Focused technical meetings with Robert as needed
  • Shared issue tracking
  • Clear task ownership
  • Documented integration dependencies
  • Written acceptance criteria for critical workflows
  • Launch-readiness reporting
  • Rapid escalation for launch-blocking issues

During the initial transition we will work closely with Drew, Dan, Robert and other stakeholders to preserve technical and institutional knowledge from the current project team.

12

Why AS Creative Services

AS Creative Services has been designing and developing websites since 2007. Over the past decade, much of our work has centered on associations and membership-driven organizations, where a website rarely operates as a standalone platform.

  • Membership
  • Authentication
  • Events
  • Education
  • Commerce
  • Directories
  • Content
  • Communications
  • AMS data
  • Third-party platforms

Our development of the Seamless AMS platform provides an additional perspective. We understand how AMS platforms exchange data with websites, where integrations commonly break down, and why clear ownership, testing protocols and contingency planning are important to successful launches. We are also increasingly incorporating AI-assisted development, migration, testing and support tools where they can responsibly accelerate work and improve consistency.

Expected Deliverables

  • Completed and production-ready Natural Stone Catalog
  • Completed and production-ready Natural Stone University/LMS
  • Documented LearnDash configuration and workflows
  • Manual LMS enrollment contingency where required
  • Completed partner-owned components of the primary NSI website
  • Validated search functionality
  • Completed content and templates within agreed scope
  • Completed WordPress-side AMS/SSO integration points
  • Prioritized and resolved QA issue list
  • Clear documentation of remaining AMS/SSO-dependent issues
  • Accessibility review and remediation within scope
  • Plugin and licensing review
  • Security and backup review
  • Production-readiness checklist
  • Deployment and launch support
  • Post-launch stabilization
  • Appropriate technical documentation for ongoing support

13
